Investing And Empowering Edo Language
*IKO OSEGHE EDO HIA 18TH OF APRIL, 2021 ON INVESTING AND EMPOWERING EDO LANGUAGE IN EDO NATION*
Oseghe Edo Diaspora Association with Ambassador Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen celebrated a zoom meeting held on 18th of April, 2021 which saw a huge turn out of many diaspora members from various countries and continents. Many members of Oseghe Edo Hia diaspora association were present at the meeting.
Guest Speaker, Ambassador Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen on his opening address commended Uwagboe Ogieva the president and founder of Oseghe Edo Hia Association for putting up such a challenging and organised union there to work for progress and development of Edo Nation in all its ramifications. He stressed on some challenges he encountered in film making and the use of Edo language and his passion and love in promoting Edo national interest, culture and language via films/movies making.
Some resolutions reached at the meeting on empowering use of Edo language were:
1. Setting up a body/institution solely for control institutional and administrative process of Edo language including building of Edo language library.
2. Sponsoring celebrities, actors and artists for Edo language programs, shows and movies
3.Conduct Edo language festivals, awards, competitions and sympoziums for students and pupils.
4. Pressure government to make Edo language a compulsory subject in all schools in Edo State
5. Give scholarship to students who pass Edo language writing essays
6. Employment preference to applicants who can speak and write Edo language in all parastatus and private investments all over Edo state.
7. Traditional rulers and political icons advice to use Edo language in most of their expressions when addressing media or given presentations.
8. There should be increament or attractive salaries, wages or income for Edo language teachers, authors and promoters.
9. Musical artist are challenge to always make use of Edo language in most of their lyrics including doing mix with other famous Nigerian artists in Edo language.
10. Lastly, it was adviced that both Edos at home and in diasporan should work together to lobby for a legislation to be passed at Edo state house of assembly for an Edo language speaking day (may be once every week) in the government house, state house of assembly and every public schools. There should be Edo language stories told in a form of cartoons for children shared on various media outlets like, youtube, facebook, Television station, radio state and an Edo language newspaper.
Uwagboe Ogieva on his closing remark. thank Ambassador Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen for his long years of promoting Edo language and culture via his many epic film productions. He stressed that Oseghe Edo Association is ready to work in colaboration in empowering and advancing development and promotion of Edo language to increase speakers and writers both in Nigeria and in diaspora.
